India’s venture capital scene is heating up as Chiratae Ventures, one of the country’s leading technology-focused investment firms and an early backer of Flipkart, has announced the second close of its fifth fund at $150 million.

With a target corpus of $350 million and a hard cap of $500 million, the firm expects to reach the final close of Fund V in the first quarter of 2026. This new fund demonstrates Chiratae’s continued commitment to backing the next wave of high-potential startups in India and beyond.

Fund V: Backing the Future of Innovation

Managed by Venkatesh Peddi and Ranjith Menon, Fund V is structured as Chiratae Ventures Master Fund V under its Category II AIF, Chiratae Ventures Trust V. The fund aims to support early-stage startups across seed, Series A, and Series B rounds, offering both capital and strategic guidance to emerging companies.

The fund’s core focus areas include:

  • AI and deeptech
  • Healthtech and climatetech
  • Spacetech
  • Consumer technology

Chiratae is also exploring newer verticals like defence technology and quantum computing, signaling its vision to invest in sectors that could define the next decade of technological breakthroughs.

Strong Backing From Investors

Fund V has drawn commitments from a mix of domestic and international limited partners, institutional investors, family offices, and repeat backers from earlier Chiratae funds. The participation of these investors underscores confidence in Chiratae’s proven track record in picking high-growth startups.

Why This Matters for Indian Startups

Chiratae Ventures has long been recognized as a trendsetter in India’s venture ecosystem, with early bets in companies like Flipkart and other successful tech startups. The closing of Fund V at $150 million is a signal that:

  • Early-stage Indian startups have increasing access to growth capital
  • Investors are confident in India’s technology ecosystem
  • Emerging sectors like AI, climatetech, and spacetech are gaining traction among global and domestic VCs

For founders, this means more opportunities to scale, innovate, and compete globally.

What’s Next

Chiratae Ventures plans to deploy Fund V strategically, targeting startups that can disrupt markets, solve complex problems, and leverage cutting-edge technology. With its deep expertise and network, the firm is expected to continue shaping India’s venture capital landscape, fostering the next generation of unicorns.
