Vishal Mehta Takes the Helm at Rediff.com: A New Era Begins

Mumbai-based digital media company Rediff.com has appointed Vishal Mehta as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). This significant move comes after fintech giant Infibeam Avenues completed its acquisition of Rediff, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s journey.

A Strategic Shift

Vishal Mehta steps into the role previously held by Ajit Balakrishnan, who founded Rediff.com in 1996. Mehta’s appointment signals a fresh chapter for the company, with a focus on innovation and growth.

Infibeam’s Game-Changing Acquisition

On Tuesday, Infibeam Avenues announced it had acquired a 54.01% equity stake in Rediff.com, officially making it a subsidiary. This acquisition is expected to reshape Rediff’s future, as Infibeam aims to leverage its digital platform to expand into financial services.

With over 55 million monthly visits, Rediff.com is not just a digital media outlet; it’s a valuable asset with strong growth potential in the digital landscape.

Vishal Mehta: A Visionary Leader

Vishal Mehta, who will also continue as CMD of Infibeam Avenues, brings a wealth of experience in technology and digital business. A graduate of both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Cornell University, Mehta has a proven track record. He previously worked at Amazon, where he was instrumental in corporate development and tech initiatives.

In 2007, he returned to India and founded Infibeam, which has since become one of the country’s largest fintech firms. Commenting on his new role at Rediff, Mehta stated, “Integrating Rediff into the Infibeam ecosystem marks an important milestone in our growth strategy. Together, we will harness our synergies to deliver innovative solutions and greater value to our customers.”

Ajit Balakrishnan: A Legacy Continues

Although Mehta takes on the leadership role, Ajit Balakrishnan will remain with Rediff as Chairman Emeritus. He expressed confidence in the future of the company, stating, “I am confident that the best is yet to come, and under Vishal’s leadership, Rediff.com will undoubtedly drive into new realms of growth and innovation.”

Looking Ahead: Expanding into Financial Services

Under Mehta’s leadership, Rediff.com is expected to expand its offerings, particularly in the digital financial services sector. Infibeam plans to utilize Rediff’s extensive user data to introduce AI-powered financial products like loans, insurance, and investment services.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, Rediff.com reported revenues of Rs 360 million, while Infibeam Avenues posted consolidated revenues of Rs 31,711 million and a Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 1,478 million.

With Vishal Mehta at the helm, Rediff.com is set to embark on an exciting journey, aiming to revolutionize its services and create new opportunities in the digital space.
