Tesla in discussions with Karnataka government to set up R&D centre in Bengaluru

Electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc is in talks with the industries branch of Karnataka government to set up a centre in Bengaluru to leverage the huge research and development (R&D) ecosystem in India’s generation capital.

“The first proposal is for an R&D centre and we’ve already had at least rounds of discussions,” stated one official from the branch, requesting not to be named.

The improvement could deliver in one of the largest electric powered car makers in the world to Karnataka and could bump up the state’s image with a high-profile and news making investor marking its presence in a metropolis that is already called a R&D hub for sectors including aviation, biotechnology, and data technology.

Bengaluru is home to numerous other big R&D centres, which consist of General Electric’s first and biggest global lab outside the US, John F. Welch Technology Centre (JFWTC), IBM, Samsung and around four hundred others.

Talks to set up an R&D centre comes a yr after Tesla leader Elon Musk expressed his purpose to have a presence in India despite the fact that he had in advance blamed restrictive policy that delayed access into the world’s fourth biggest car market.

The India head of Tesla and the industries commissioner of Karnataka are anticipated to satisfy again later this month, the official mentioned above stated.

Karnataka, like its counterparts, is actively looking for new investments to kickstart the fledgeling financial system that was set back because of the covid-19 caused lockdown.

Karnataka has even set up a project force just to pursue agencies trying to relocate from China after the pandemic.
