Azhar Iqubal: Revolutionizing News Consumption with Inshorts

Azhar Iqubal’s journey from a university dorm to pioneering the revolutionary news app, Inshorts, epitomizes the power of ambition and innovation in the tech industry. Born in Kishanganj, Bihar, India, Azhar’s early life was marked by a passion for learning and academic excellence. His admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he pursued Computer Science, laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial aspirations.

In 2013, Azhar, along with his IIT Delhi schoolmate Anunay Pandey and Deepit Purkayastha from IIT Kharagpur, launched a Facebook page that would evolve into Inshorts. This platform disrupted traditional news consumption by delivering concise, 60-word summaries of news articles, catering to users’ preference for quick and accessible information.

The journey of Inshorts gained momentum when it secured recognition from the Times Internet-TLabs Startup Accelerator, propelling it towards widespread adoption. The app’s user base grew exponentially, from 100,000 users in December 2014 to nearly 3 million today, reflecting its popularity and impact on how news is consumed.

Inshorts not only transformed news delivery with its succinct format but also became a commercial success through innovative advertising solutions. Partnering with over 200 top brands including Vodafone, OnePlus, Mercedes, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, Inshorts has established itself as a pivotal player in digital advertising, contributing significantly to its operational success within just five years of inception.

Beyond Inshorts, Azhar’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Public App in 2019, aimed at fostering digital community networks across India. This venture underscores his commitment to leveraging technology for social cohesion and community engagement, further solidifying his influence in the tech ecosystem.

Through its intuitive interface and efficient news delivery model, Inshorts continues to redefine how millions of users stay informed amidst busy schedules. By offering a curated selection of news stories that are both comprehensive and concise, the app caters to modern-day preferences for efficiency and convenience without compromising on substance.

Azhar Iqubal’s success story is not just about building a multi-billion rupee empire but also about challenging conventions, embracing failure as a learning opportunity, and envisioning a future where technology enhances connectivity and information accessibility for all. As he continues to innovate and shape the digital landscape, Azhar remains a trailblazer whose journey inspires countless aspiring entrepreneurs to dream big and pursue their visions relentlessly.

Inshorts is not merely an app; it is a testament to Azhar Iqubal’s vision and perseverance in transforming the way we consume news, leaving an indelible mark on the intersection of technology, media, and user experience.
